Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month | October, 2025
October is Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month.
It is a reminder to be in community with the countless families who have experienced pregnancy or infant loss and a time to cherish the memories of their babies.
To say their baby’s name.
To ask to see favorite photos of their baby.
To check in with how they have been doing- and truly holding space for all of the coexisting emotions and the dynamic nature of living with grief.
For workplaces to reflect on how they do or actively don’t support parents experiencing pregnancy or infant loss.
For society as a whole to acknowledge that we can and need to do better to support bereaved parents.
We can intentionally sit in the grief bereaved parents feel, even if only briefly.
Experiencing pregnancy loss or death of an infant is not something anyone can fix or make better. There is no bright side, no higher reason their baby needed to die. Their immeasurable love and grief deserves ongoing support.
As birth workers (birth photographers and doulas), Gather Birth Cooperative actively supports bereaved parents as often as needed. For those who don’t know, we provide complimentary photography to families experiencing the death of their baby or child. We’ve photographed families experiencing the stillbirth of their child, pregnancy loss, families in their homes or in the hospital as they prepare to remove medical support, documenting memorial or funeral services, and future family/expecting family sessions that are trauma informed and honors their dead child.
To all parents who have experienced pregnancy and infant loss, you are seen, you are loved, and you are held. Your baby’s life was important and meaningful, they will never be forgotten.
XO, Britt + the rest of the Gather Birth Team
Thank you to the families pictured in this post for your vulnerability, honesty, and advocacy for your family and other families who have experienced pregnancy/infant loss. Julian, Julia, Annie, you are forever loved and missed beyond measure.
