Born at Home With Trillium Midwives in Maple Grove, Minnesota | A Full Gallery of a Peaceful Water Birth in Photographs
This was such a beautiful home birth with the skilled care of Trillium Midwives. Downstairs, the older kids were playing with grandma and grandpa as they waited for the arrival of their little baby sister. They briefly checked in on their mom during labor, and as any child would ask “why is it taking so long?”. As an experienced birth photographer, this labor felt like the perfect pace. Not too precipitous (fast) that the brain can’t catch up to all the intensity and changes and yet not too drawn out that their body gets so depleted from working hard for an extended period of time.
I got the text from the family that early labor was underway just before 5AM. Another text saying the midwives arrived an hour later. With a family that has birthed before, I like to err on the sooner side and told them I’d head over. I arrived with the hazy sunrise just above the houses in their neighborhood, about 7AM. Baby was born into the strength and security of their mother’s hands, in the water, just 4.5 hours later.
The biggest brother was so excited to meet the new baby. The now middle child, was cautiously curious and warmed up by reading to baby sister.
This was an incredible water birth, at home, surrounded by their adoring family and skilled midwives.
