There are so many ways families make their birth stories personal, and the Gather Birth team has seen many during the last decade. We’re grateful to be invited to share space with families as birth photographers and filmmakers in the Twin Cities. Our team was thrilled to be invited to document this sweet family’s maternal-assisted cesarean.

A parental-assisted (or maternal-assisted) cesarean involves the birthing parent participating in the cesarean delivery of their baby. These gentle caesarean births are an empowering way for families to take control of their birth story. Family-centered cesareans are becoming more common, with many parents spending more time than ever understanding the many choices available during c-sections.

We’re so glad we were able to capture this family’s birth story, and overjoyed they were willing to share select moments from their special day with other families.
