Did you know doula support in the operating room during a cesarean birth is just as important as birth doula support during a vaginal birth? We’re so grateful to have attended so many cesarean births as birth doulas and birth photographers here in the Minneapolis, St. Paul and greater Twin Cities area.
Whether you’re intending to birth in a hospital, birth center, or planning a home birth, it’s always a good idea to discuss your preferences for a cesarean birth just in case. Families have many options to create a personalized and family-centered c-section. This includes welcoming your doula into cesarean birth, as well as asking for birth photography during your c-section.
We firmly believe doula support in the operating room is essential for both the birthing person and their partner or support person. Doulas can help families understand what is happening during the surgery, document the experience, provide support to the partner, and help devise a plan if baby needs to spend time in the NICU. Support to cesarean births should be a right for all birthing families.
