Born at United Hospital in St. Paul, Minnesota | A Preview of a Well Supported First Birth in Photographs

First pregnancies and births are unique in that everything is brand new and parents are navigating it all for the first time. This family chose to equip themselves with birth doula support to have dependable continuity and continuous support however their labor and birth unfolded. They felt open to all the labor tools and medication if needed. As contractions became closer together and intensity increased, she chose an epidural to help support the rest of her labor process.

First births, on average are about 24 hours long. After all of the array of positions and techniques to help support baby’s descent and optimal positioning for birth, this little one was born (right around the average 24 hours of labor time frame) exactly as they hoped for- vaginally, pain managed, with continuous support of partner and doula with a skilled midwife and medical team.

Birth can be wild and unpredictable in many ways, but I love when births meet or exceed parent’s expectations.

Welcome to the world, sweet baby!
