Becoming Parents Through Adoption | An In-Home New Family Session in St. Paul, Minnesota in Photographs
Their dream of becoming parents came true!
It’s an incredible feeling to witness dear friends become parents. For over two years, they’ve been going through the rigorous adoption process to grow their family.
“On Thursday, July 9th, we received a call from our adoption agency saying a birth family was interested in meeting us. A scheduled match meeting the following Monday, July 13th, was preempted by an early arrival that evening, and the following day we met our son and his birth parents while recovering in the hospital.
For those who don’t know, there is usually a series of conversations that take place: first a match meeting, then if a successful match, you discuss birth plans including a hospital stay, medical decisions, and discharge preferences and come to agreements, and then discuss contact and communication agreements for a successful open adoption plan.
We did this in one day, all four parents together while taking turns caring for our son, over the course of 8 hours. In these early hours of our relationship with them, A + G showed us so much generosity, and over the next 5 days of our shared hospital stay we continued to develop a deep amount of trust, candor, transparency, respect and love between all of us. We thought we prepared for a thousand different adoption scenarios, but none anticipated something so beautiful rapidly developing and evolving between four parents alongside our son. Over these days, we discussed names together, and we kept coming back to one name: Theo.
That evening we all discharged together in a lovely departure ceremony, where Brandon’s dad served as the paparazzo.
And just like that, the Milla Crew has officially grown to four, but in many ways to six including A + G as well. It’s a hell of a beginning to Theo’s life - deeply rooted in abundance of love from the four hearts of his parents.
And special shout out to the team at the hospital - they showed all five of us so much love and care and compassion.
Back at home Chili has been taking his big fur-brother duties seriously after some adjusting to all of the noises Theo makes.”
Welcome to the world, Theo!
