Cesarean Birth Awareness Month | April, 2026 | Gather Birth Cooperative | Minneapolis/St. Paul, Minnesota
Cesarean Birth Awareness Month | April, 2026
Each year, the month of April is a dedicated time to honor and hold space for those who have given birth by cesarean/c-section. Our team of professional doula and photographers have supported and documented countless families in the Twin Cities and surrounding areas through c-sections that range from the calm and planned to the unplanned and emergent.
Regardless of the why or how - cesarean birth deserves to be supported continuously and chosen (doula) by the family. These families deserve to have their memories documented and preserved.
Time and time again, our doula families verbalize how important our presence and support was for them, even when medical staff care felt attuned and aligned. The relationship and trust we develop with clients makes whatever the circumstances of birth unfold feel unique, held, and known.
Cesarean birth can hold a wide range of emotions and meaning to families. For some, their cesarean birth reminds them of their strength and sacrifice to birth their baby safely. For others, their cesarean birth is a source of trauma, loss of autonomy or loss of control. Feelings can range from empowerment, grief, joy, fear, and everything in between.
Through awareness, research, and resources we can move towards reducing the incidence of c-sections in this country, support mental health and advocate for vaginal birth after cesarean (VBAC).
Thank you to our beloved doula + birth photography clients for sharing your images and stories with our birth community.
